Usually, the best way to go is simply doing a course at school/college/uni/other.
I tried learning from the net as well, but I'm learning a lot more in class and a lot faster as well. Also, you can actually ask question that you might have in class...

Maybe you can attend some japanese classes at your local university (if they have it).

Otherwise your only option would be the internet...
I have a lot of material if you like, it's available at the Japanese Center here at FTP-Anime, but it's only available to Elite Members.

Depends on which country in Europe they're from.
I used to think the same, until I went on vacation several times and started speaking English with people...hardly any of them were fluent.
(Except for when I went to England of course :P)

Lol, I think I speak more American English than British English, but when it comes to spelling it's kind of 50-50. Not because I don't know the difference, but because I just like to spell words the way I think they look the nicest. For example I prefer "colour" to "color", but I also prefer "coordinate" to "co-ordinate".

If I remember correctly, co-ordinate is the British English spelling for the American coordinate.

Ah, that reminds me.

It's slang Japanese...stuff you'll never learn from normal books XD

I actualy prefer dubs in German than in (American) English. The germans take dubbing very seriously and where the americans and even the japaneese original don't worry too much about lips sync, the germans do. When I was a kid I used to watch a lot of german dubs (not only amine & cartoons), it's where I learned my German. And I learned my English from all those English and American programms that are subbed on dutch tv. (Basicaly anything that has a target audience of 8 years and older gets subbed in the Netherlands.) But being dyslectic meant that I couldn't keep up with the subs so I learned English instead.
I hope to learn Japansees the same way (with the aid of some lessons).
At the moment I'm watching anime all by my self, because having to pause every time there is sub of 2 lines or more (or 1 very long line) (or it's superimposed on a squiggled backround) (or... whatever) is going to drive any fellow viewer up the wall. It even drives me up the wall. muhahaha
