Gap Year?

I'm thinking of taking a gap year to travel the world, learn different cultures and languages, do some photography work and to maybe write a book. Everyone...

yes thats true, most people are saying that i wont come back to study but i know i will.
haha thats one of my dreams, an animator for Disney :beautifu2: but im not that good yet :P

I decided it would be best to seek advice from everyone and gather as much info as i can on it before i make any decisions. Your opinion has helped me a lot thank you

thanks :yeahh: yea I definitely want to do something im really interested in and like which is why i think i should probably go with animation. the problem is that here they dont offer a degree in anything to do with art :( and there is not really any market for animation in South Africa. so i would probably have to go overseas to like Japan or Canada or something. Im not sure

thanks DD, a lot of my friends that are in Uni now are saying the same thing-wishing they took a gap year.
hehe the first place I'll probably be heading to is up north to Switzerland, which is kinda close to SwedenO.<

thats the same here, not much anime or anything, but it is getting a bit better i guess, most people at least know what anime is now.
but its fine, thats why i'll be going to japan! :m-happy2: i'll leave it for last tho, i'll have to get an extra bag for all the stuff i'll be buying hehe :P

hmmm well Im planning on going to (not in this order tho):
Australia
Switzerland
Italy
Brazil
Japan (of course) :blush2:
America (I wasnt going to go here again but i really enjoyed it so i might go again) but i'll be going to Florida....which i guess is kinda close..ish to New York :P i'd have to see hehe, Im not sure if i'll be going to America yet...it all depends on the money :wary:
....i cant believe i'll be leaving in like 4 months :happy:

thanks Ilasir! yea Florida is awesome hey :D i visited there when i was really small so i dont remember much of it tho...which is why i'd love to go there again ^^ ya thats true hehe, most of my destinations are pretty spaced out.... :P heehee i think so too :yeahh: i would love to go to more places but i wouldnt have the time or money, so those are the main ones i would like to go to.

that is one of the main reasons why i have decided to take a gap year, i would like to discover more things about the world and about myself so when i come back i will have a direction/know what to do :)

my plans have changed a bit tho sadly, i wont be able to go to as many places as i wanted to. I think (still not to sure tho) that i should go with a program instead of working this out all by myself :P i may do au pairing. which means less time to travel. O.o

I started designing it myself and i worked out all the expenses of going to each country and how much it would be to stay in a hotel for so long etc etc and i realised that its way out of my budget :(
if i go with au pair it would be much cheaper because then i can stay with a family, i wont have any hotel expenses. :cebollita24:

well my plan now is to travel to australia, then do au pair.
im going to stay with a family in switzerland for 4 months.(they go on holiday to italy so i will be going with them) then i will stay with a family either in new zealand or florida (hasnt been confirmed yet) for 3 months and lastly i will go to Japan! for 4 months :cracker:

yeah money was also the biggest problem for me, which is why i'll have to travel and work at the same time so i can pay off my loan :P :D

OK my rough plan so far is....

go to America for 2 months (florida and visit NY)
visit my relatives in england
move to Switzerland for 4 months
stay in Italy for a while
go to Japan for 4 months (tokyo :D)
maybe visit Australia

when you are in japan, go to osaka. i can speak from experience, the crabs are the best in the world, plus osaka is the food capital of japan. soo good! and when in australia, be sure to visit the outlands, as watching the joeys is one of the most amazing things that i have ever seen (joeys are kangaroo's)

-ps! dont forget to check out an inlet when in florida. they are amazing. the inlets are cool. one i visited had thousands of hermit crabs in the water just milling around. it was really cool.

I'm afraid I've not got much experience with gap years. I can't think of anything inherently wrong with them, so no lectures about how you have to go to uni from me.:relieved:

I will say that if you do decide to take a gap year, you might want to narrow down your list of ideas. A year sounds like a long time, but it'll go by faster than you think.
