It would seem like that for outside observers, but trust me you do get sucked in and you die a horrible death (though I haven't experienced it myself, and hope I never will)

Yes, it does shift (the south and north poles change), and we're probably very near the shift.

There's no problem once the shift has happened, but during the shift itself there is a problem. Unfortunately for us, it's hard/impossible to know when exactly it's going to happen.

There are theories about where the objects that go into a black hole go. One of them being the theory of white holes, where these objects come out again. Since a white hole has never been observed, some believe that they are located in another universe. In other words, objects going in a black hole in our universe, come out in another universe. (only a theory of course)

Thats an interesting theory. If it proves true, I guess there are truly endless planets in the multiple universes that humans can strip clean of resources...lovely.

Lets talk about astrophysics...whats the deal with black holes? How do they work? Are there any theories about what happens to objects that get sucked up by a black hole? And please...no wikipedia links, or I will delete your post. Consider that your first warning from the master at arms. :)

I remember how I was watching discovey science channel and they had a segment on the Hubble Telescope, from its creation to its launch. They talked about what effect black holes would have. The narrator said that it would obliterate every heavenly body in the system and that there would be no way to stop it....sounds like my kind of power.

Or the sun closing in on us, but thats been predicted for roughly 5 billion years from now. Not much to worry about.

Regardless, on our current rate of resource consumption and pollution, I estimate that the Earth will not last longer than 100-200 more years if we dont change our habits...but thats just me. I aint no genius...
