.avi and ogm how to play them

Hi i am new to this site, but signed because i want to download chobits, and so i did, but i can't play the files, i have both windows media player and winamp, but they can't play the files, so i downloaded a large codec but can't seem to figure it out since there is no instructions.
please help a wannabe bill gates here thanks.

Got the same thing on Ubuntu, but I can't seem to find the right codecs for making mkv work.

Sorry for the late reply, but I could play mkv in VLC, but the subtitles came out too big. I finally had to use the default KMplayer, had no problems. I'm just having a problem setting the screen resolution in Ubuntu. May be the driver I'm using.

I have KMplayer, but it would not act right.

I was using VLC but the subtitle font is too big.

The totem player works great, but I can't change the aspect ratio to 16:10.

Doesn't matter anymore, I just hosed Ubuntu during a ATI driver install.

Relax went into restore mode and ran the x fixy thingy.

I got the driver installed, turned off the cool windows effects, and VLC works like a dream. But I found out that Ubuntu, Linux in general doesn't do ogm and mkv files well.

Still kinda weak on the whole CLI of Linux.

Right now the best I can do is:

sudo apt-get and using the man pages.

ext3 for the Ubuntu, ntfs for xp and vista, and a fat32 for all to share.

FAT32 is universal. Any OS can access it. I know Ubuntu can access NTFS partitions, but I'm too lazy to install the plugin for it.

From my old network admin days, I always keep a FAT partition on the drive in case of a crash and I have to access files through other means.

Yeah the K-lite takes over. I had to uninstall that turkey. I found something, so I was able to edit the lesb flick.

It's for widescreen monitors greater than 19 inches.

So be it. I'm not satisfied with any of the OS I'm running.

-Vista won't let me play DRM content, the mail program sucks, and this admin rights thing is annoying.

-Ubuntu, the sound is too low, going command line when installing games is annoying.

-XP, just got too old, can't use my new tech with it.

I'll keep diddling till I get them all properly broken in.

I'm slowly breaking in vista, it's understanding me. I hate having large amounts of TSRs running though(firewall, AV, proxy filter, etc).

I guess I'll tinker with Ubuntu next week, see if I can break it in also.

Man, you brought back memories for me. I had Win 3.1X with wintrumpet.

I'm still having headaches with Ubuntu. I had to reinstall Heron, and then I was able to get the video card drivers working, and now the sound is working superbly.

Had to reinstall the Alsa drivers.
