@Quirk While I do agree that tablets and phones are not replacements for console games and pc games I do also believe they are great alternatives for different kind of games.

I don't use windows anymore but use ubuntu with play on linux for games. I really disliked windows 8 so I moved to linux.

Even steam has a linux version now so windows is losing ground.

I don't really like Steam, the fact I have to download a game I already have the physical disc for is annoying. And I keep getting those stupid update errors, where steam bugs out when trying to update. So you have to kill the process and start again. Not to mention steam keeps freezing on me and freezing the game in some unrelated manner.

And while alternatives to Windows are always good, windows will reign supreme because it is the basic OS. So many people are used to it and so many companies sell their computers with the OS already installed that people will continue to use it.

@Quirk wow, are you having so many problems with steam? I actually never had those problems except that steams was starting under the windows xp compatibility mode this was causing a lot of bugs for me. After disabling this most bugs were gone.

nah these bugs are just bad luck on my part, where my system when combined with Steam doesn't make a happy couple.
Other people have these bugs, which is the only reason I can continue to use steam.
Because if you don't kill the process when steam tries to update and fails, you have to restart your system.
Steam is good in some ways, but too intrusive in other ways.

@Quirk I really like the concept of steam that your serials and games are stored at their server. If you want to play the same game on your laptop it's just a 1 click install no other worries. I agree that it doesn't seem to work that well all the time.

@hyper_shadow Yea most likely Nintendo won't release a new console. The nintendo U does have great specs and most likely they will last for quite some time. I just really hope there will be more games. Because while the line up is great it takes soooo long before they get released.

@GhostHell what kind of console of nintendo are you waiting for exactly? A handheld?

I'd be surprised if Nintendo have anything other than handhelds over the next few years. They seem to be going the way of Sega after the Dreamcast (Shenmue still rated among my favourite games of all time).

I'm sticking with enjoying older titles at the mo and actually getting round to finishing them. Currently loving reliving Okami in HD on my PS3. Also Borderlands 2 with the missus and Dragons Dogma from time to time. PS+ has been fantastic lately with the monthly games, can't wait to really get stuck into Tomb Raider.

Hey @Quirk how is it going with your new laptop? Still playing X Rebirth or did you switch over to a different game?

I got Mario Kart for the Nintendo U. So far I really like it. The gravity and underwater levels really brings a new dimension in the game and the game is actually harder to play than the previous one. They deleted the auto slip so you need to now always manually slip the kart.

I think it is better since it makes the game more fun to play.

Still playing X rebirth, I think I have 56 hours down so far. I have built several stations and am in the process of building a self sustainable empire of sorts. There are still some bugs when it comes to obtaining the resources for the stations as a ship with 1000 fusion reactors might only sell you 3 when you need 50 or something, and that can happen again and again. But a fun game

I am taking a break from that though and concentrating on finishing Dungeon Siege 2. Which is a game I played many hours of, got a fair portion through the main quest and then started playing something else. It is a nice RPG.

Mario Karts was awesome back in the day, I still have my SNES copy and have the 64 emu to play on my laptop. Though it is best played with others.

I checked out X Rebirth and initially it looks awesome but after the critic reviews it seems that it may be awfull to play on a PC. Are you playing it on the PS? And what do you like about the game? It seems to be missing a multiplayer element to maken it more fun.

I looked at the reviews on steam and such and if you look at the majority of them, the person has only played a few hours. So you can basically discount those people as either people who do not like the genre or they played when the game was heavily bugged (most egosoft releases are, because they are a very small studio) and did not return.

The game is PC only, as far as I know and looks great and plays great. At this point the bugs are mostly gone and now the game just needs some optimisation.

Yeah there is no multiplayer, but the X universe is about flying around in space, fighting who you wish and actually facing the consequences of being a pirate or attacking only one or two factions. You can build stations and trade with pretty much no limitation. If you wanted you could build ship yards and make your own ships. You could even become self sustainable and sell the end products for considerable profit.

You could build a fleet and sweep through systems destroying space stations and whole factions. At the moment I think the factions slowly rebuild, as they have considerable resources to pull from to rebuild. But I imagine one day some one will release a mod to allow total faction destruction.

Mods are another cool thing about egosoft games, they give people access to the resources pretty much straight away and some times include the mods in the vanilla version of the game if they consider it better than what was there or was not there.

It is a big game that takes a fair few hours of playing to really get into. Basically you have to decide if you want to invest the time and effort to start building an empire, or become a pirate and capture ships to pay for new upgrades and such.
I think many people did not know what the X games were about when they first started playing and left bad reviews because the game was not their game. Kids who think Battlefield and Black Ops are the best are not likely to like this game, but they might have tried it and then left negative reviews.

Basically I like the game because I like the genre and the satisfaction of building an empire or destroying other factions.

Up to you dude. Whew, long post.

Also some of the visuals are jaw droppingly beautiful. Sometimes I just fly around to look at the cool artwork in the game.

@Quirk Thank you for your long post. It's worth a lot more than all those reviews. I'm thinking of trying it out because I really enjoy simulation games. Even more those with a lot of freedom.

I will buy it from steam :)

No problem. I hope you enjoy the game when you do get it. I imagine steam sales are fairly regular and you should get a nice deal.

I bought an old 3DS XL today with firmware 4.4 on it :) . I'm planning to get a gateway card so I can put all it's games on a single SD card and take them with me.

Does someone else have a 3DS? What games a good ones?

I have always wanted to buy a handheld console of some kind, but the fact many of the PSP games are PS2/3 ports (or close enough to be) put me off. That and the cost of buying the PSP and some games would be a considerable chunk of a PS4 paid off.

I think if I brought any sort of Nintendo handheld I would get at least one of the Pokémon games. To be honest I would most likely go for the older games. One of the first Gameboy colour versions perhaps. I do not know if Nintendo still sells them though. I like the classic Pokémon

But I would go for strategy games, rts and puzzle games. Definitely get Tetris, that is damn addictive. Maybe one of the classic games like Pacman, Galaga and the like.

Though I suppose it depends on what games you like and there are a lot of indie titles out there, or so I heard.

Yea, I mostly buy the 3DS for the Nintendo games like Zelda and Mario. I don't play shooting games so buying Nintendo consoles is just a smarter move for me since the games on those are more family oriented.

I've been playing pokemon X on the 3DS and so far I'm really liking it. The game and graphics are awesome. I'm really impressed that it still looks great on a quite old console.

So far pokemon is also the only game where the 3D function on the 3DS really works well. It isn't always on for the game but only on the parts where it will really add something like the battles. It also does not seem to tire your eyes as much as the other games do.

I'm also looking forward to the new game called "Fantasy Life". It really looks great.

Sounds cool. I don't think I will get a handheld console anytime soon.

I plan on buying a PS4 once more games I like are out. Which could be some time.
Even though there are some really nice games coming out, I can't justify spending $500-$600 just for the console. Though there is a pretty cool pack with 4 games and the console for $600.
I imagine I will have the console by early next year, or somewhere around there.

There is also the problem of some games releasing both PS3 and PS4 versions. Do I wait 6months until I have the console and the added graphics of the PS4? Or just play the game and have fun.
I am not a graphics junkie. I like games for their feel and enjoyment, the graphics are secondary.

That new Middle Earth: Shadows of Mordor looks spanking.

I always wait a while and buy one for a little less with the payment ticket from a auction site like eBay or others.

Sometimes it will be a 100 Euro cheaper than a new one that is maybe a few months old.
