What about strategy games?
Command and Conquer Series (Alternate History in where you have the choice to play either side in cold war and newer conflicts situations)
Civilisation series (1800's combat)
There are heaps of these games, each with its own element, like Age of Mythology, where you play as the Greeks, Egyptians and Norse, with their gods and weapons. These games have heaps of replay value and as some of them have been around for a while, they are cheap and play on almost any PC.
Don't forget the Sim games. I have Sim Tower and still play it a lot, I can upload it somewhere if people want it.
@nnnmmm Yes I got addicted to Elder Scrolls 4 as well, rumours abound of a new game coming out. I haven't played ES4 since I completed the main mission, I still played hundreds of hours.
Killzone 2 is a good shooter and the multiplayer isn't all online for once, have a second controller and you can play together.
There is a Metal Gear solid game as well Snake Eater, Stealth shooter that kicks ass. There is also Mortal Kombat games for a straight fighter
