We used to go swimming in the river at water hole, where it is deeper and generally shaded by trees, but it dried up. The river hasn't any water in it now, so after that we would have to drive to the pool (40kms) or to the beach (220kms).
Apart from that we had one of those old water coolers, but thats dead now. The hottest it has got here was over 52 C, it broke our themometer and the mercery dripped out.
