well, so far, i believe anime is much more mature, even those shojo and shounen series. It's a bit more philosophical and delves more into their culture, but still establishes a premonition towards a fantasy world. As for cartoons, i can't see something that is so repulsive except for a few series like the simpsons, or from my younger days, rugrats, tom and jerry, and any other good cartoon series because they had a more in-depth plot though not the at the as anime. And for me, i would be ready to hurt anybody who calls anime a cartoon because there are not cartoons, just something that was develop from cartoons. hm, i can't see myself with anime in my life, lol, :P, ^^
