Yes, the first few episodes were kiddy anime...almost pokemon level (okay, not that low...but still)
But once shippuuden starts, it's way different.
There's quite a lot to it once you get into it.

at first, kids lvl: pokémon (i didn't have any idea it was anime but meh, i watched it when i was a kid:)) and samourai X (in english (that rly sucked after i watched it in japanese:p) after that, dbz and now all sorts of anime:)
