Onegai Teacher/Onegai Twins
Onegai Teacher:
One night, Kei is enjoying his last night of his holidays, when he suddenly sees a strange object falling out of the sky. The object lands in the water and out of it steps a beautiful woman. The next day, his class gets a new teacher, but Kei doesn’t care: he watches out of the window all day long thinking about last night. When he gets back home, he notices that he has a new neighbour: his new teacher. Kei offers his help and just when they are bringing the last box inside, Kei trips and the Box falls open. Now, he finally understands that the alien he saw at the lake is his new teacher and neighbour. He runs away but he can’t escape since Mizuho (the alien) transports him to her spaceship. Accidentally, Kei triggers the spaceship to launch, and Mizuho stops it at the last second, but then teleports both of them to Kei’s home. Since it’s late they decide they will talk about it some other time. The next day, Mizuho and Kei decide to talk in the storage room, but they get locked up. Just when they think they are never going to get out, the headmaster of the school opens the door, and asks the 2 of them to come to his office the next day. Now, the only way out of this mess is to tell the headmaster the 2 of them are married……with all the problems that come with it…….
Onegai Twins:
Onegai Twins goes on where Onegai Teacher stopped: the year after the UFO-crash. The boy Maiku buys a house there because he wants to find out 1 thing: who is this girl on the picture next to him? So, he bought the house that was on the picture and just when he wants to begin his search, 2 girls knock on his door, holding the same picture that he did, and both of them claim to be his sister. Maiku decides that for the moment, he takes both girls in, but this means trouble: you see, both of the girls are falling in love with him, which means there is only 1 question that keeps them all busy: who is the twin, and who is the fake?
Extra information:
Number of episodes: 13 / 14
Genre: drama/humour
Characters:
Mizuho and Kei: Mizuho is the alien that begins to work as a teacher and Kei is the schoolboy that finds out her secret. I won’t spoil too much about it, or else you wouldn’t be able to laugh as hard about the twist points during the anime. In addition to the other characters, these 2 actually appear in both series.
Maiku: the main character in Onegai Twins. He builds websites for a living, but he earns just enough for the 3 of them. If you consider he has no parents anymore, he goes to school, and does this much work, you’ll find out he is a very busy character.
Mina: the first person to claim she is Maiku’s sister. She loves Maiku (more than any normal sister would do) and therefore she has a hard time to decide what to do. She takes care of Maiku, and apparently, she ran away from her foster parents for yet unknown reasons.
Karen: the second person to claim she is Maiku’s sister. Just like Miina, she loves Maiku a lot, although she has a totally different character from Miina. Together, they form an alliance to make sure Maiku doesn’t fall in love with anybody except for one of them.
Own Opinion:
Onegai Teacher was my first humour-anime, and even now, I still remember the series, which means that I really enjoyed it. You could see onegai Twins as a prequel of Onegai Teacher, since the same characters play in it, but you could also very well see Onegai Twins alone, although I wouldn’t recommend it to you. Also, I’m going to make this a little competition to see which one is better: Onegai Teacher or Onegai Twins.
If we’re looking at the story, I’ve got to give Onegai teacher the upper hand: though the beginning of Onegai Twins is obviously better, it keeps hanging there and doesn’t continue. It keeps going about who is the real sister and who isn’t, and at some point, you’ve really had it. How different is it with Onegai Teacher: Onegai Teacher started, at least for me, a tad worse, since I couldn’t really see what the fun was watching it, until the 2nd episode. Also, if we have to look at plots in the story, Onegai Teacher definitely has more, and as expected I’m not going to spoil them.
For both series, the subber is Lunar, which obviously is a good thing: I suppose Lunar is one of the best subbers until now, although they’re a tad slower than other subbers. I can’t possibly tell you who wins this part, because both are great subbed: so it’s a tie……..
If we’re then looking at the music, it’s obvious that Onegai Twins won. If we just look at the amount, Onegai Twins has way more than Onegai Teacher. But not only the amount counts, the quality is also important. Well, I can say that the music of Onegai Twins is also better than the music of Onegai Teacher. One exception though: the opening song of Onegai Teacher is obviously better than the opening song of Onegai Twins, but if we look at the total, Onegai Twins wins this one.
So, until the last part, it’s a tie. In that case the animation should give the answer: in Onegai Twins there is just the same house, the same town, and all of that kind, while in Onegai teacher you’ll see hell more places. And in Onegai teacher, at least there is some action, in contradiction with Onegai Twins. So here as well, I have to give the points to Onegai Teacher: congrats!
Judgment:
Even though the makers tried to continue the success of Onegai Teacher, they didn’t make it with Onegai Twins. This however doesn’t tell you much about Onegai Twins, but about Onegai Teacher: which is that it rocks. Unfortunately, not a lot of people know about Onegai Teacher and Onegai Twins, which is exactly the reason why I put this series on my site. At first, you would think by yourself: humour and drama don’t go together, but you’re wrong: although I have to admit that in most cases series with those two opposites aren’t worth seeing, Onegai Teacher/Twins is definitely the exception of that rule: both proved to be very good animes, although it’s a shame they are hard to get. So, the thing you’ve all been waiting for, the results, I’ll give them to you, enjoy watching =).
