a must watch anime for me.. is itazura na kiss.. and bokura ga ita. You'll love these too as much as I loved the series. I enjoyed it so much. It's worth watching for. :D

Basilisk,Elemental Gelade, Shuffle!, Devil May Cry, Blood Brothers, Tenchi Muyo!(All), Cl'naad, Godannar!, Gantz, Princess Resurrection, Negima?!, Chobits, X(Remix), Mezzo, Slayers, and Elfen Lied are some titles I own and HIGHLY recommend!!! Golden Boy and Step Up! Love Story are underrated ecchi series that I'd add to my list as well!:m-bata:

Neon Genesis Evangelion (It is one of the most overrated things in the world, but it's still very good and it has a great influence on the whole anime genre, so it's definitely something you have to see)
Ghost in the Shell
Anything by Hayao Miyazaki
Cowboy Bebop
Legend of the galactic heroes
Gundam (any)

And some more personal favorites (they might not be a must see as in "they have influence" but I recommend them anyway because they are a lot of fun)

Early Bleach (turned to crap eventually, but the beginning is a lot of fun)

Most of the anime I would recommend are already listed, so I will keep it short.

Funniest: School Rumble (secretly hoping the missing third year episodes will be added)

Most Disturbing: School Days (really disturbing it's a must watch to because you have to see it yourself^^)

Best Sports Anime: Hajime no Ippo

Action Type: Full Metal Alchemist (both)

Mystery / Intelligence Type: Death Note (Code Geass would be my runner up)
