I know old topic but for a very long time I was facing issues with VLC
(at first Vid issues but codecs and custom settings fixed that)
but it was later on the Audio problems.. it won't play any audio streams for any file
I tried reinstalling VLC, other codec files, changing settings and everything but still nothing
So in the end I gave up and hit the "reset all settings to Factory Default" option
and there I had everything working :) (I love customizing everything I come in contact with so it was a bummer for me to default everything and then later redo all the settings again (which I did and the audio poofed again so now I use VLC on default :P))
So yeah try forcing everything to default (even after you re-instal cause at times it keeps the old configurations)
But yeah Jade Lee mentioned, Computer Specs do matter almost all the time (especially for newer videos files as they come with advanced encodes and internal settings than the older gen vids)
So update your drivers, codecs, Memory (RAM), graphic card, and whatever else you can think off to make your computer fresh (don't have too many applications running when watching a video)
