Please don't tell me I'm the only one here playing this. Couldn't find a thread about it, though. I wanted to include the Minecraft main website's url, but I don't have enough posts yet =(

Anyway, I bought this when it was Alpha, and it's still awesome. I've only played this in multiplayer though.

So, what do you think about upcoming updates? We just had dyes, music blocks, cakes and underwater mobs. There should be a new launcher somewhere in the near future, too.

And there should be a new server, which could mean that there'll be less lag, but I won't get my hopes up yet.

Indeed, I have the same feeling. I hate when you're fighting one and all of a sudden there's one behind you and well you know the rest...

You're not the only one playing this game, I play this game on my free time. I also bought this when it was in Alpha, good thing too because the price got jacked up when it went into Beta.

As for the recent update, I have yet to find any lapis lazuli from mining but I'm not really trying since there isn't any uses for it other than building material and dye. The introduction of cake is cool, though it took me awhile to figure out what to do with it after I placed it. After Notch added squid mobs in the water, I don't feel like diving anymore...I know they're not aggressive but they're still pretty creepy in the dark abyss.

Looking forward to Lanterns being craftable, though I'm a little anxious as to what materials are needed since they're supposedly the future permanent light source. I just hope the materials are easy to obtain.

Luckily I had set up my walls in such way where there are ledges that spiders can't go past while climbing walls. A neat defense that I stole from minecraft wiki and went ballistic with is setting up an outer perimeter made up of alternating cactus plants and lit netherack. From a distance my castle looks pretty freaky with all the cactus and fire around it, but I couldn't feel any safer.

Any clue on how to make a cannon in survival? I've seen videos of them on youtube, but I don't quite get the concept on how to construct them.

True, though for me it's hard to go spelunking without having a large stockpile of torches, weapons and tools just in case I get surprised by a Creeper in the darkness.

I hate going cave exploring then get bombed by a Creeper from behind when there wasn't one behind me before. Then I gotta go retrieve all the stuff I collected if it hasn't disappeared by the time I got there.

You can play it on easy, if that's more to your liking. There are mobs but they're really weak and even if a Creeper manages to get behind you the chance of surviving is pretty good...unless you were already close to dying. Plus you can always make iron armor which the materials for are rather plentiful and not that hard to find. And besides hostile mobs only come out at night so you can avoid adventuring when things start to get dark.

On a side note I'm glad Notch added an alternative to obtaining coal through smelting lumber. Though this far in the game, I'm not that desperate for torches as I was when I started my main file. The first night in game is always the hardest and the longest in my opinion, but after that it's pretty much smooth sailing.

There are some decent youtube explanations on cannons, but I don't think it's really useful to have one on survival (especially if you have no inventory mod). You need ridiculous amounts of tnt, as well as you have to protect it from creepers.

Anyway, you just have to make a device that simultaneously 'lights' tnt, have water below it, so that there is an explosion, but no damage, and then have a separate block of tnt 'lit' slightly later than the rest and shot by the rest of the tnt. A cannon is basically a shell that only holds tnt to increase firepower, the bullet itself is just one block of tnt. (but you can fire more than one block at once, but it will make accuracy fail).

O yeah, I forgot to mention Lapis Lazuli, but I haven't found it either.

Lanterns sound like torch + paper (candy cane), but I guess we'll just have to wait.

Well, if you're fast enough to build a spider-repellent wall, you're absolutely fine.

I've never even used armor though...
