Chronofox:
Well, my former profession was not terribly dangerous, it was as I said commercial stuff, and up here in Canada we run into significantly less lethal situations because of the level of restrictions we place on firearms access which makes the overall threat levels in being a PI in this country significantly less than in the USA. That being said, yes there were some times where the threat of violence was not insignificant, but that just came with the territory.
Congratulations on being willing to serve your country in military service. This is something I personally have a lot of respect for at the grunt level (what I have to say about brass both uniformed and especially civilian and how they decide to use that volunteer service especially in the past decades is a whole other matter), for I believe very strongly in the importance of both the volunteer military AND the importance of the citizen soldier regarding maintaining the long term health of the body politic. In this my views tend to be very much along the lines of Heinlein's Starship Troopers (and I mean the source material aka the book, not the movie even though there was more than a little of the book's concepts brought into that movie). Indeed, I was going to do so myself and had been a member of one of the military cadet services in my teens but shortly before I was eligible for service I tore up the ligaments in one of my knees making me no long suitable for service, much to my chagrin. Interesting way to come up with your nickname btw, thanks for sharing.
As for seeing me around here, I expect you will see me from time to time in different areas of the forums, but I am one of these people that tends not to say much unless I actually have something to say, when then as I have mentioned already I tend to be very detailed in my commentaries.
Meri:
Meri, I looked at your anime list and another half dozen or so of your list are ones I have seen, Love Hina, ROD the OVA (loved this one I might add), Chrono Crusade (another really good one IMHO), Fruits Basket, DBZ, Elfen Lied, Nana, and Tenjou Tenge I am certain of, and there are a couple more I am not so sure about. Hey, when you have watched as many as I have over my decades of watching any and all animes I could get my hands on not all of them tend to stay fresh in your mind or worse not blur/blend into others with similar themes alas.
As to enjoying writing intros to post, I wouldn't go quite that far. I do think if one is going to hang around a forum and leech their files over the long term it is important to being willing to meet their minimum requirements wherever possible, and when that is simply to leave an introduction and some few posts of substance on any of a very wide field of choices then to not do so is ill mannered and quite rude at the absolute minimum. I will admit to enjoying doing detailed writing in general, but to be honest that is more a byproduct of how my mind works and how it takes doing lengthy writings to begin to accurately translate the concepts running around in my head at any given time (aside from my other health issues I have severe ADHD and have known about it since early childhood, almost 20 years before it started being seen as a "real" disorder, back then you had to be fairly bad to even be noticed for it medically let alone actually treated, indeed back then they called it clinical hyperactivity, how descriptive hmmm). For some people this is a real pain, as they find my style way too dense and tedious to put up with, then though there are others who find it a refreshing change of pace from the modern brevity style. Me, I do it not because of style preference, but because it is the only way I can say what I want to. I tend to write in the same manner in which I speak too, so it is not something limited to my writing alone.
Well, I hope to enjoy my time around here too, so take care and be well and thanks to you both for your kind welcoming comments here. Sorry it took me a little bit to get back to you, I may be slow to respond to people at times, but I do make it a point to do so with all those that are deserving of the courtesy (I don't feel the same obligations to those that are rude, insulting, looking for a fight for no good reason, that sort of person, manners can be like respect, they need to be mutual and sincere to have real weight/substance to them, otherwise they can become a way for those less scrupulous to manipulate those with good manners/courtesy to less than healthy ends). As I said earlier to TheWolf, good manners and common courtesy are things I hold in high regard and practice as a matter of course until and unless given significant reason not to.
P.S. I combined my response to both of these people because I got the impression from reading other threads that it is better to do so than to do so individually as the latter is seen as spamming; a way to boost one's thread/post count unfairly. I am assuming I got it right in this case, if I haven't please feel free to instruct me on this, after all one cannot know there is a problem to fix if one is not told let alone know how to correct it. I also tried quoting from both posts but I ran into problems when I tried to preview, something about needing 50 posts before I could import images, and since I didn't really understand that one and given how late it is out here at this point I simply deleted both quoted posts and left the replies addressed to each individual since they are easily available for anyone to read immediately above this post. Thanks all.
