I agree too! as racist as "Achmed" can be (Jeff Dunham), I think he basically said it correct....Being "Politically Correct" is a pain in the @ $$ !
What offends one person, or group of people, may not be intended to do so, and/or may not offend others. Some groups even deliberately go out of their way to look for offensive slurs in anything from something said to something printed, to some stupid cartoon in a newspaper. The "offensive material" may not have even been intended as offensive, or intended to be offensive in a totally different way than it was interpreted as well!
Some jokes are seen as rude or offensive, and while many are, some just aren't intended to be so. the same with stereotypes...people don't like to be stereotyped, but the ones that seem to get the angriest are the ones who happen to behave exactly as the particular stereotype! And this doesn't need to be racial, either...it happens across genders and religions, as well as political affiliation.
There are millions of ways to offend people, but....so few ways to be "nice". Why is it that people take offense so easily over spoken words and yet aren't as easily offended by the violence and degradation and depravity that they commit against each other on a regular basis? In fact, why is it that people take superior attitudes towards others, even here on the internet where they don't know who exactly they are attacking? Why do people deliberately TRY to offend or provoke others with words or "cyber" attacks? Where's the thrill?
Personally, I try to be receptive to various other cultures, and as long as they are at least respectful of my own beliefs I have no issues. I do take offense at certain illegalities and crimes against humanity, such as slavery, child abuse, child pornography, and the like....but if someone belches loudly at the dinner table, I am well aware that it is a high compliment in some areas, and prefer to see things in that light! :D
Besides, even here in the US, there are still many different ways things can be interpreted...we are a multinational country. In fact, my own family has a multicultural heritage, being French, Irish, Engish, Swedish,Croatian, possibly a bit of Greek, and I think at least one other nationality...and my wife seems to be Scottish, Irish, and German heritage, thus my children are essentially "blooded" most of Europe, even though they and their parents were born here in the US ! Being multinational, and in fact most of the US being the same, I have such a hard time understanding people taking offense to things or being racist or anything...Americans have so little to talk about, having initially stolen this country technically......
