I recently made successive stops at Borders and Panera, buying food and drink with the expectation of getting wi-fi through the iPod Touch, and didn't succeed in either place. I know there's sometimes a wait before wi-fi comes through, I know to go to Safari first in case I need to agree to something before I use other apps, and I've connected at other places since this.
At Borders, I got a screen where it wouldn't recognize my touch of the "agree to the terms" button.
At Panera, a screen started to load with the Panera Login URL, but the circle saying "Connecting" stayed there endlessly. I went to Settings, and hpsetup was showing a stronger signal than Panera. I tried both choosing hpsetup as my network, and asking to remove it in case that gave me a clearer path to Panera. Going from memory, I'm not sure of the wording, but there was a warning in red asking if I really wanted to remove hpsetup access entirely; I didn't go through with it, because at other times, in places where wi-fi wasn't advertised, hpsetup gave me good connections, and I didn't know if I could bring it back at another time.
Should I consider this just to be stuff that happens, or could I have done something to make it work?
