Post count requirement for postng links upped

The post count requirement for posting links to the forum has been upped to 50. The reason for this is that we're still having trouble stopping all bots. Because they keep posting silly posts till they can post links.

I'm really sorry for the people that are willing to share but can't. Just stay around and talk to the people. You will be at 50 soon. Then you can share with us. ^_

Also all illegal software posts (not games) like Windows and office and so on Are not allowed. Please keep posting legal software and let the people looking for illegal software go somewhere else :).

There will be also zero tolerance for "Thank You" posts Just use the Thank you button for that. Those posts will give you a infraction.

To mods:
All Thank you posts or short meaningless posts like "That is really cool" can be deleted and plx give the user a infraction. This is all to stop those damn bots :P

Also the same counts for software posts. Because the bots keep posting those like 10 times over >.<

Nope not that I know of. Meri isn't doing fansubbing anymore. so if no new learder comes up we won't be starting :)

The problem is that most bots are registered by real users and then it will step over to a bot. The best is to just stop stupid posts early and stop them from posting by giving infractions :)

I have an better idea: when a person begins a new thread or post, he/she must do a captcha before the thread/post can be made. This would seem obvious (but at the same time can, no...will be a nuisance) but may have a higher % of seeing less bots.

Ive brought this idea up before but it looks like it dried up. I was a proponent of captchas but who knows what issues that would bring in the long run. However, the only way we can really know is by trying.

I agree, but considering how many duplicate posts we have on the forums, we still have our work cut out for us. Initially the cleanups wont be hard as hundreds if not thousands of posts are present that are duplicates of others, so it should be as easy as select all and delete. However you are right, we will be keeping some stuff, but we want to make sure it is organized, concise and unique. We dont need 100 posts for the same game/movie/anime etc. What I am saying here is very high level, and we will get down to the nitty gritty as we get closer to the site launch date. Cheers.

So what you are saying is that bots could only post links if the real people who put them up first post 50 times correct? That would certainly discourage people from doing so as its a massive waste of time for no return, but I still want to make sure we can nip bots in the bud and stop them from posting too much. As it is difficult to tell at first sight if its a bot until they have hundreds of repeat posts, its important to somehow be able to distinguish. We just have to have vigilance thats all. We can talk about doing mass cleanups of all download sections once the new site goes up.

this is REALLY good news rj!!! it really helps with the cleanup and maintenance to have these guidelines!!!!!!!!!!!

You are correct my friend. I'm afraid that won't stop the bots at all.... I'm pretty bots always find a way in, sooner or later...

Maybe a more difficult captcha could do the trick while registering?

However the min. 50 post count gives time to spot the bots and report them (for regular users like me) and the mods can kick their butts right away so this measure has some impact.

on second thought would it help if to post an introduction first would be a requirement? Is that doable... I think of something like that:

[] to register at the forum another captcha or a combination there with more than two captchas could stop some more bots
[]then the new member must post an introduction, he gets an e-mail with the link to the thread.
[*]finally the 50 post count requirement.

the pro would be the mods and watchfull members have a much higher chance to spot bots there in the intro thread. If the new member doesn't post in this thread thats it for him anyway.

the contra would be we actually force the new member to make an intro...

Yes, you can post links in your posts once you reached or surpassed the 50 posts count number. As you can see you have 41 at the moment so 9 more and there you go hehe.
