It's slang Japanese...stuff you'll never learn from normal books XD

Like Carter from Rush Hour...he says Chinese but it always means stupid stuff. lol. Use that book and fall under the impression its nice stuff. Say it to a girl and end up in a Japanese jail. XD Might be cleaner than in the US though...

Understand: Slavonic languages - Russian(and related languages), Serbian, Croatian...(sorry if I missed some) a bit Polish and Bulgarian. I can't speak much, but if you speak slowly, I understand(confirmed on holiday in some of these countries and with friends from this countries)

Learning: Japanese, Spanish, French.

Oh you understand some Serbian and Croatian? I'm from Bosnia. I speak the language fluently. haha. We may be able to converse a little. :)

I actualy prefer dubs in German than in (American) English. The germans take dubbing very seriously and where the americans and even the japaneese original don't worry too much about lips sync, the germans do. When I was a kid I used to watch a lot of german dubs (not only amine & cartoons), it's where I learned my German. And I learned my English from all those English and American programms that are subbed on dutch tv. (Basicaly anything that has a target audience of 8 years and older gets subbed in the Netherlands.) But being dyslectic meant that I couldn't keep up with the subs so I learned English instead.
I hope to learn Japansees the same way (with the aid of some lessons).
At the moment I'm watching anime all by my self, because having to pause every time there is sub of 2 lines or more (or 1 very long line) (or it's superimposed on a squiggled backround) (or... whatever) is going to drive any fellow viewer up the wall. It even drives me up the wall. muhahaha

Very true that Germans take that stuff seriously. Many speak English and do not tolerate mistakes made in German, so if you cant speak German, use English with Germans. Otherwise, you will be considered an idiot. On the other hand, Russians are about the most forgiving people with their language.

Im actually not familiar with azbuka. Is that supposed to be Cyrillic? Bosnia abandoned Cyrillic after the war in the 90s, and reverted to Latin form, as did Croatia. Serbia however still clings to Cyrillic.
I started school a little after the war ended, and therefore never learned Cyrillic. However, most of the rest of my family can read it and write it.

Naturally there would be differences XD. Just because one can read Cyrillic doesnt mean they can read two different languages in Cyrillic (unless of course they know both, but in this case they dont). Its just a hypothetical analysis.

Oh I agree very much. Those Croats and Serbs speak way too quick and too elegantly. We Bosnians like to speak gangsta style and always abbreviate where we can. You could say Bosnian is a language of its own how much its owners have warped it. Im damn proud of that. :)

Croats say: Dobar dan (good day)
Bosnians say: Vozdra (greetings, but in our own warped way)

Bosnian is very difficult to learn. In fact, it is among one of the world's most difficult. However, I think its worth pursuing. You V. should not have a problem pronouncing the alphabet because everything is said almost the same as all other Euro languages except English. However, the actual words are another story. If you are not up for a challenge, I suggest you stay away from it.

Your opinion is lacking in one direction...the fact that you have to LEARN all that other language grammar to be able to understand others. I know that, its common sense. My point is, dont start with a hard language right off the bat. If you do, it WILL give you a headache....and it wont be as easy as you said regardless of whether or not you know separate language grammar.

Unless you are no older than 10 when you start, chances are you will have trouble. Believe me man, Ive been there. I had an easy time learning English cause I was nine when I came to the US. My brothers who were a lot older still cannot speak as well as me and my mother doesnt understand much. When you talk about soon, they did start soon. In fact, immediately, cause they were living around the language. You are being vague and general in your assumption of "starting as soon as possible". I dont really know what time frame you talk about there or the age of the person trying to learn. The fact is, the younger you are, the better. The older, the more challenging.

Yep, thats very true. During my high school years I actually tested in the top 5% percentile for writing, speaking and reading English in the entire school....and that was only a few years after I arrived in the US. I was quite surprised I put most American kids to shame...

I only can speak malay fluently. If we focus on the fluent language spoken then i am not fluently enough to speak other language even english. I am sure you can detect my mistake here and there in my writing.
