Name: Shadow (oooh ninjery)
Age: 22
Birthplace Unknown
No known next of kin (raised by mountain monks)
Bio: Discovered abandoned as a baby by a sect of monks living in the mountains Shadow was aptly named for constantly walking in his mentors shadow. His mentor, the master fighting monk, Dorinbo, trained him from a very early age in the ways of combat, strategy and the esoteric nature of the martial arts. As Shadow grew he became incredibly proficient at his arts and under the guided tutelage of his master gained many martial arts skills and abilities along with the survival skills that come from living in a mountainous region. Shadow trained daily with his fellow monks, always wanting to push himself further, eventually growing bored of his students and testing himself on the wildlife around the mountains including wolves and eventually bears. One fateful morning he was awoken suddenly by one of his brothers and rushed to his mentors chamber. His mentor, old when he found him was now at the end of his life. His final parting gift to Shadow was a heavyweighted Gi, an old worn rope belt, a combat knife, wakizashi and solid bo staff. 'Take these items and continue their tradition, leave this place and see the world. Seek out the strong and make my spirit proud. You are not a monk, but I hope what you have learned will keep you on the right path in these times'.
Shadow promptly left the Temple after the ceremonial burial of his mentor. Then, promising to one day return to the Temple he set off into the mountains ready to take on the world.
Shadow is a sheltered and slightly arrogant man who posseses much prowess in the martial arts. His survival skills and his familiarity with animals places him more at home sleeping with the dogs than it does him in a house. He is incredibly proud and sometimes quick to anger. He is quite naive in dealing with people and very trusting. This can lead to himbeing taken advantage of and manipulated very easily.
Physical features:
He is of average height (around 5"10)
His is well toned, quite scarred on his body and quite flexible and agile.
He has short nigh on fully shaven hair.
His eyes are blue.
He wears a heavy looking gi (with 8 poems of the fist inscribed on the back in kanji) with rope around his waist, attached to which are his knife in sheath and wakizashi in sheath. He carries his staff on him always.
Anyways, I was think my guy could slowly turn semi demonic. Then get killed, but not fully killed off. Then have to claw his way back through some sick styled demon realm thus redeeming himself, going through a major maturity change and then ultimately discovering his true combat potential (much DBZ style battling minus the ludicrous powering up).
In a nutshel that's the direction I want him to go. Ultimately he sides with the good guys and helps to smash whatever ultimate evil we're all gonna slap.

Tomas noticed Wolfs' hackles raise, as a low, almost silent growl escaped his snarling lips. With a word to Wolf and careful to make no movement that might attract attention, Tomas' eyes scanned the horizon. There - off toward the Northern Forest ... movement.
Tomas sighed. He knew his solitude would not last, but had hoped for more time. After his conversion to serving The One True God, he had entered the mountains to commune with his God and live alone. Now this. None lived in the Northern Forest due to the wildness and even savagery of the country. So if Tomas saw movement, it cried for investigation.
Sure enough - after days of searching, Tomas found the cause of the movement he had seen. A black knight - quite formidable looking, had set up camp and had underlings building an encampment. But why here of all places, thought Tomas, it was so remote as to be completely removed from any of the local population ... but wait! of course, Tomas mused, this smacks of an initial invasion force.
Just as Tomas turned to leave this hopeful invader to his machinations, another surprise caught his eye. Why had Wolf not sounded upon her approach? Thru the forest an elven girl soundlessly, but awkwardly, stalked the black knight as well. Tomas was amazed at her ability for silence - she almost seemed to fall at every third step. Wolf just watched with interest - no warning growl - no desire to attack. Curious. And what was that purple movement at her feet. Not discernable at this distance - it bode further investigation.
As Tomas watched, the black knight packed up with a few of his attendants and left, his main force staying behind to expand the encampment. After the departure of the black knight, the elven girl left as well - the purple movement about her feet leaving with her.
Knowing a change was coming, Tomas turned, following the girl.
The girl finally reached her camp. This looks like a permanent camp, brooded Tomas. Hmmm ... I would have sworn noone lived in the Northern Forest - and yet here's the girl, he thought to himself. Newfound respect for this young elf rose in his mind. Tomas was jarred back to paying attention upon hearing "Shell - snack time!!" her voice had a lilting quality to it - almost as if she sang it. But before he could process this new perspective of the elven girl he watched - up scrambled a purple crab to her lap! "Does Shell love Meri?" she sang. Meri - that must be her name. But what in the name of The One True God was that thing doing on her lap? The girl fed bits of something to the purple thing as she gently cooed at it. This girl was definately strange. Living alone in the Northern Forest with a purple crab - curious.
It had been hours since the girl, Meri, had gone to sleep. Even the strange purple crab had ceased movement. Tomas decided it was time to leave. With a nod to Wolf, he stood and silently strode off into the night.
Back in the mountains,in his own camp, Tomas finally unwound. Wolfs' head under his hand as the lobo lay beside him, he pondered all he had witnessed in the last few days. Sure that the covert arrival of the black knight had the broodings of war, Tomas steeled himself for the decision that must come. Run or fight. And Tomas never was much of a runner. After quietly praying to The One True God, Tomas slowly drifted off to a wary, fitful sleep, visions of ominous black knights and one clumsy elven girl disturbing his rest.
Wolf raised his head. It had been weeks since their excursion and Tomas was preparing to head to the capital, to try to warn the government of this hidden force in the remote Northern Forest. He watched Wolf and even though his companion's attentions were directed at the base of the mountain, the lobos’ easy manner confused him. Usually when Wolf sensed someone or something his hackles went up and a low throaty growl would inadvertently escape his drawn back lips.
All of a sudden, it became apparent for Wolfs' strange behavior. "Shells, it's snack time!" lilted gently up from the rocky paths below. A wry grin creased Tomas' face - why i think Wolf is smitten with that girl!, he thought to himself. Shouldering his pack - they made their way down the mountainside, where they knew they'd find a small elven girl with a purple crab.
There she was. Tomas quietly materialized inside her camp perimeter and waited. The girl looked up and stared, as if she wasn't sure she was seeing correctly. It finally registered that there WAS a tall enigmatic man with a very large lobo wolf by his side right there in front of her! She tumbled backward falling all over herself, yet eerily silent in her clumsy bid to get away! She had drawn an old samari sword quite quickly and held it tremblingly out in front of her, the crab cowering behind her legs with bits of food still hanging from it's mouth.
"Wait." Tomas held his hands out. "I'm not going to hurt you Meri - it is Meri, right?"
"Who are you?" Meri blurted at Tomas. "How do you know me?" Her sword trembled and then lowered after some silent communication between Wolf and her. Tomas noticed the sword was still held at ready, though lowered, as she waited for his answer.
Tomas spent the next few hours explaining about the black knight (I saw him too! Meri exclaimed), his study of her in her camp and his subsequent trip back home. He continued with his plan to head for the capitol (I am too! Meri blurted out) to warn them of the impending invasion. And finally how he had heard her use her own name while cooing at the strange purple crab. Meri blushed and stumbled for words.
After agreeing to travel together (at least for now) they made camp.
As Tomas watched Meri sleep, he thought on his past. Meri reminded him so much of Melina.
It was twenty years ago that Tomas had been converted to his faith in The One True God. After a particularly gruesome campaign of conquest, when trolling the battlefield for living friends or enemies, one to save and the other to end, he came upon a child. The orphan sat with one dead warriors' head on her lap.
"What are you doing here girl?" Tomas growled. "Saying goodbye to my father, Sir," she replied. Tomas stopped in his tracks. Robbing the bodies, he expected to hear, but not that. Now he noticed the tears on her cheeks and the gravity of her situation hit home. "You don't belong here." Tomas half choked, half rumbled at her. "Run along!"
"I forgive you," she replied. Tomas stopped again in shock. "What?" he roared. "I said I forgive you" she meekly responded. What was she talking about - forgiving him? Tomas thought for a moment and then told her "I didn't kill your father."
"I believe you, Sir, but you are part of the invading force from the islands in the sky, are you not?" she asked. Not waiting for an answer, she continued. "Then you are just as responsible for every death here. My father had been doing research on a very old religion from the Time Before Time and found a book telling of The One True God. God says in there that I must forgive you."
Tomas's heart was pierced through with these words. "What is your name, girl?" Tomas asked. "Melina, Sir" she replied. "Tell me more of this One True God." he responded. With that he scooped her up in his arms and left the invading force, with Melina as his new daughter.
Fifteen years later, a young woman now, she died in his arms, ravaged by the sickness that had hit the village. All he had left of her was the ancient Bible she had given him and the faith she had trained him in of The One True God. Leaving the small town where they had lived as father and daughter, Tomas headed for the high mountains. It was there he had found Wolf, an abandonded pup. Tomas raised Wolf as his companion in the wilderness, but the animal had retained much of his wild nature.
And now this. It looked like someone on the floating islands was bent on conquest on the Lost Continent, Tomas’ new home.He would not hide in the mountains while this took place. Yes he was just one man, but Tomas knew The One True God’s power to effect whatever change He wished in this world.
Tomas looked over at Meri - brought back to the present with his musings. And this clumsy elf girl - what of her? Had she lived alone in the Northern Forest for many years? What of her parents? And why did Wolf behave almost as a tame pup around her? Did she have some power over animals? Did she have magic?
His questions would have to wait, he thought, as sleep finally claimed him. Tomas trusted Wolf to wake him should there be any need or if an intuder showed up.

When the man started talking Shells finally noticed something was going on.
He crawled nearer and sought shelter behind Meri's legs.
"It's ok Shells", Meri said in a soft voice.
The crab walked around the strangers in curiosity,
and then ran back to the waterside to play some more.
After listening to his long story Meri decided they could travel together.
Although she still hadn't regained her ability to fully trust other beings of higher intelligence.
Before going to bed she hugged Shells.
Shells dug a hole near the water to sleep in.
When Meri was finally asleep she drifted of to a strange dream-world.

Alexander, or as he was called by his immediate family and closest of friends, Sasha, was directly related to the Soviet Union of old, and still spoke their ancient language. What most of the ground dwellers and air folk didn't realize was that their was an entire civilization underground, who still had working machinery. Before the great war that changed the world, the soviets had placed their most intellectual people, alongside with the most physically fit people their great nation had to offer. So when the war happened, they were all underground.
Sasha was the product of the intellectuals and the Olympic champions. Strong, smart and flexible. However, he was smarter, and even stronger then the rest. That's why he was chosen to go to the surface, and find out how these strange people, with their odd beasts and magic, could be beaten, subdued, and destroyed over time.
Sasha's people had the ancient technology, and the best minds and bodies anyone could have asked for. But their was a problem. The years underground had led to a lack of a large genetic pool, and this caused redundancies in peoples genetic coding. This turned some people into ravishing madmen, and some into timid mice.
This plagued Sasha's people, and they realized that they needed to expand, so that they could also expand the genetic pool of their people.
As Sasha stepped out into the sun for the first time, he could barley see (Fallout 3 reference for anyone ). After a few moments, his eyes adjusted, and he stumbled forward, towards what he thought was a city. As he approched the walls, he shouted "Priviet Komrad!" (Hello comrade) to the guards at the gate. However, as the ground dwellers were the remains of the Americans, they only spoke English. The odd language startled the guards, and they shouted back "Stay back, or we will fire upon you" as they drew their bows. Sasha could not understand them, but noticed the primitive weapons, and knew they meant him harm. He pulled out a machine pistol, and started to fire at the guards. The seemingly magic flashes and the guards dropping startled the commander at the gate, who finally shouted the order to fire. The remaining guards let loose a barrage of arrows upon Sasha. Sasha managed to avoid most of them, but one caught him on his shoulder, and he fell. Realizing that one man could not take out this garrison, he was surrounded by foot soldiers, and brought in front of the general.

The biting wind woke Tomas with a start - and while quite cold from the wind, Tomas lay perfectly still so as to place the sounds of the early morning one by one in his mind. Once satisfied that no danger lurked nearby Tomas rose with the fluidity and animal grace of Wolf - as Wolf now stood beside him.
Meri still slept soundly, with the crab dug into the ground at her waist. Tomas decided to recon the area again, having gone over their surroundings in a cursory fashion last night. Walking ever increasing circular motions - nothing out of the ordinary was found. Tomas decided to go to the nearby cliffside and get some water from the small falls that were there. Upon kneeling at the stream, the hair on Tomas's neck stood up.
Why had he told Wolf to remain with Meri? - but no - that was as it should be. Slowly, hand on the hilt of his broadsword, Tomas rose. By now the smell of brimstone and sulfur filled the air. Tomas waited, relaxed now and praying to The One True God. With a confidence and reasurance that he knew did not come from himself, Tomas spun - brandishing his broadsword - now awash with a piercingly white light.
Before him stood a demon - greater than any he'd encountered before.
"I will go devour the welp you travel with after i have dispatched you - useless human!" The greater demon's words writhed out off his mouth like acid. "Do your worst demon", Tomas replied, "I can but give my life for The One True God." and with that - Tomas attacked.
His first swing of the blazing broadsword opened the demons chest - cleaving the ribcage in two. the demon writhed back in pain - seared by the blinding blades' pass. The sound of one thousand souls in agony escaped from the cavity. The Demon clutched his chest with one massive hand and swung at Tomas with the other. Tomas fell backwards to avoid the impossibly long arm ending in blackened razor-like talons. Tomas, on the gound now, seems at a terrible disadvantage. Quickly the massive demon jumped over Tomas prostrate body, one foot on either side. Still cluching his chest together, the demon raised the other arm for his death blow, when Tomas drove his supernaturally infused blade into the grotesque demonic skull - splitting it assunder.
With the lingering smell of brimstone - the demon whisped away to nothing - it's soul wrenching cries fading with it's presence. Tomas lay on his back holding his now inert broadsword breathing hard - but thanking his God.
Returning to camp with the water, Tomas started the coffee. Meri slept on - oblivious to the danger just passed her by. Wolf was still sniffing Tomas over - was it the brimstone or was he checking for wounds, Tomas mused as he poured his coffee. Taking his first sip, Tomas couldn't help releasing a contented sigh. Next to fighting [and killing] demons - coffee was his favorite pastime!
The small noises Tomas was making finally roused Meri from her sleep. Tomas watched as the small elfen girl stretched, ruffled her hair and started mumbling to herself. All of a sudden she froze - eyes on Tomas! Laughter rumbled up and out of his mouth at the surprised and shocked look on Meri's face. Meri blushed as her hands went to her hair, trying to straighten it out from the sleeping mess that it was. Shells, the purple crab buried in the sand where she sat, burst from his hole, spinning nonsensically until it had located Meri's backside - where he glared and cowered. Tomas laughed anew.
"Please keep your ferocious crab at bay!" Tomas chucked, "he's so intimidating!" Meri grinned sheepishly - "He's not the bravest sort, I guess" she said, "but Shells is my best friend, nevertheless." As Meri helped herself to the coffee, Tomas told her of his encounter with the demon. She listened with wonder and concern, unsure why it would want to "eat" her. Tomas explained that the demonic race was the provider of many majiks in the world today and that they stood against anything "good" in all the races.
After a meager breafast Tomas, Wolf, Meri and Shells started off again on their journey to the capital. Tomas just hoped they were not to late in notifying the authorities of the impending invasion.

Meri
When Meri woke up the next morning she needed a few seconds to remember where she was.
She had never left the forest before so a dark fear filled her when she didn't recognise her surroundings.
After what felt like an eternity she realised what was going on and calmed down.
Shells was also alarmed and hid behind Meri once again.
Then he too realised nothing was wrong and went to play.
While drinking coffee Tomas told Meri some crazy story about some sort of Demon devouring all good.
Meri was still sleepy so it took a while to sink in.
She had met tons of creatures in the forest.
But no ghosts nor demons...
After a last quick look for some berries or other useful nature products they moved on.
The road became more rugged as they continued their way up the mountain.
There'd probably be a safer way around, but it would be a long detour.
And since it was the four of them, they felt confident to cross the mountain.
Meri felt a bit uneasy being around someone else than animals for a change.
Sure, she could communicate with animals. But it's different with another human-like person.
They could actually talk back and knew more than just basic emotions and needs.
Meri had to call out to shells several times because he was running around so jolly he forgot they were up pretty high.
It was still early in the morning and the sun started to rise.
Although still chilly, it would warm up pretty soon at this height.
Meri wasn't used to travelling, so it was very tiring keeping up with Tomas.
She decided to take out her sword and use it as a support.
The sword would be pretty useless in any other situation unless she learned how to use it.
I must've looked ridiculous when we first met...
Tomdawes
Tomas watch Meri stuggling to keep up. When she started using her sword as a walking stick, a small grin creased his face. They continued on for hours until well past the nooning hour. As the heat of the day just started to be opressive Tomas suggested the stop for a small meal. Meri nodded, leaning on her walking stick slash sword - then dropped to the ground in a heap. Tomas rushed over to her - she was breathing unevenly and cool to the touch. He picked her up in his arms and carried her to the shade of a great pine tree for shade. The crab had found his courage and was snapping his claws at Tomas's heels. Tomas brushed to frantic animal away and went to his pack. Extracting a bundle of medicinal herbs, Tomas mixed them with water, started a fire and began to brew his concoction. As the mixture began to boil, Meri came around. Disoriented, she looked around finally settling on Tomas's face. Recognition dawned and she smiled a sickly smile.
"Hi." Tomas said as he handed her the herbal mixture, now steaming. "What happened?" Meri asked as she blew on the cup. A small sound of pleasure escaped he lips. "Mmm ... what is it?" She asked, taking a sip.
"It's a blend of roots and herbs that I learned from a hermit", Tomas said. "You passed out when we stopped. I think the heat and the pace I set was a little much for you." He reached out and put the back of his hand on Meri's forehead for a second - then smiled. "I think you're going to be fine.", he said. "Of course I'm fine", Meri replyed, attempting to stand. Before she could fall back to the ground, Tomas reached out and caught her, lowering her slowly to the ground. "Well, maybe I am a little shaky", she mumbled, holding her head with one hand. The tea in the other hand had sloshed, but not entirely spilled as her hand trembled slightly. Noticing the shaking, she grabbed the cup with her other hand, stabilizing the tremble.
"I think we should stay here for a day or two - just till the heat attack you had it gone.", Tomas said. "Now before you can say you're fine and we should continue - I've been thinking of training you a little with your sword. We could take that time for recouperation as well as the training. What say you?"
Meri thought for a minute - realizing that she was still shaky. "OK", she responded, "I'll try to not be too hard on you during my training." A wry smile escaped her lips.
Meri
After she had drank the tea and caught her breath she noticed Shells who was sitting silently and at a safe distance from Tomas.
The sight of it made her laugh, and she called out for Shells.
Come here you crazy crab. We'll be staying here for a few days.
So you can go play, but don't go too far now!
The crab seemed both relieved and delighted.
He sprang up and started running in small circles.
Wolf kept following the crab with his eyes until he disappeared out of sight.
Meri patted Wolf on the head, and he laid down his head in her lap.
His presence made her feel more at ease.
It's not a bad idea to learn swordsmanship.
But will I be able to get a hang of it in only a few days.
I don't want to loose to much time here.
The sooner we get to the capital the better.

While going tru the paper work and reports from both the dwarfs and the growing army i noticed something odd going on north of the mountain while taking my well earned rest from work.
The odd thing i noticed was some peculiar companions traveling together, i see a old man and a young woman and with them i also see a wolf and a rather big crab that should not be in this area unless its a pet to one of those two.
So far it seems both the wolf and the crab is attracted to the young woman and also somewhat overprotecting her, while the old man seems rather suspicious of his surroundings.
I also noticed that some from the training army that are currently camping close to the mountain and waiting for their armour's to be ready for the real training further East from here, it seems 2 of them noticed they have been rather followed or investigated by those two companions.
I quickly sent a messenger to them to leave those two and their pets alone since they seems to be moving away and does not seems so dangerous.
Well as long as they do not get any closer to the South-East part of the mountain and meet up with the troublesome small legion, then they should be all good.
Guess its time to check on the dwarfs and back to my own training.

Derfel walked along the clean and wholesome streets as his subjects waved and customarily threw rotten vegetables and fruit, as well as insults to welcome their monarch but into town. He could see the love and admiration for him manifesting its self on his subjects with snarls and sneers. He waved to his subjects and also followed tradition. He leap up with a growl and bit the throat out of one of the 'police' who had 'arrested' him for vagrancy. H spat out the blood and flesh and wrapped his manacles about the other mans throat and squeezed until there was a sharp crack.
By now his subjects were celebrating with screams and pretend fear, he unlocked his manacles and played tag with them, he would swing them into the head of anyone he could reach and they would be it. But his subjects were ignoring him and just collapsing and thrashing on the ground, leaking blood, as they played possum.
Derfel smiled and went through the pockets of the twenty odd people laying in their own blood, silent or groaning. He pulled out handfuls of silver, copper and gold, he threw the copper away and started to eat the other essential metals. As he walked along the street he grabbed some human food from the ground, as an afterthought, he didn't want to panic his subjects,as they didn't know his real identity.
"Damn it!" Derfel ignored Sicques's growl and kept on walking. "Could you for once come to reality and break your own neck! I don't know why some one hasn't managed to kill you yet, it really annoys me."
"I can't die, i am no mere mortal."
Sicques sighed and muttered. "What is it this week? Let me guess you are a squid? No, No I have it, you are a rock that happens to roll in the wrong direction."
Derfel laughed and nearby animals quivered as they watched the blood drenched mad man walk past eating something that looked to be once human. "Fool! I am a Demon King. If you weren't my trusted adviser and good human companion, I would have eaten you long ago."
"What!" Sicques screeched and fumed. "You are going to far, I am the Demon and you the puny mortal!" Sicques again attempted to take over then human host and Derfel dropped his tasty shank of something similar to ham and roared. Sicques saw a group of police on horse back bearing down on them with spears and he smiled, this pitiful host was going to be run through a dozen times. But first he would take some down.
He charged towards the horse and let out a piercing shriek, the horses reared up as a blood red demon ran towards them.
Sicques jumped up, grabbed the mans head, twisted his whole body around and fell back down, he let go of the twisted wreck and grabbed the man's spear. He stabbed, thrust, slashed and thumped his way through the tightly packed horses and men, expecting any minute to feel the cold steel slide inside him and let him out of this wretched prison.
But it seemed the fools were more interested in running then fighting and Sicques felt the rage build up inside of him.
"Puny Humans! Burn and explode!" He roared and the street seemed to roar as well, all the humans, horses and anything looking at him funny exploded into to flame and then exploded from the insides outward. Showering the street in scraps of cooked flesh and rags, now Sicques was blood drenched and covered in human scraps. He subsided and waited for another chance to kill the stupid human.
Derfel came back, looked at all the human food about him, he used the warped breast plate to collect some dinner and with his pockets full of gold and silver continued on.

Thomas picked up his sword and held it out in front of him waiting for Meri to attack. Wolf watched uncertainly, not knowing what going on. Shells, Meri’s little crab spun around in circles oblivious to it all. Meri pulled her sword and swung it with all her might. The sword bounced resoundingly off of Thomas’s broadsword. Meri's sword practically flew from her hands, as she and the sword were knocked to the ground. A small smile began to creep onto Thomas’ face, still standing with sword outstetched.
Lowering his sword to the ground, leaning on it he said, "That wasn’t bad Meri." Tomas chuckled as he held his hand out for Meri’s to help her up. But to his surprise, once Meri had his hand, she kicked her feet to his midsection and, with all her might, hoisted his full seven foot frame over her head and on his back. Tomas, somewhat stunned at the change of events, stared up at Meri’s small frame standing over him, sword at his throat. Without warning laughter burst forth from Tomas’s mouth. There he was on the ground with Meri’s sword at his throat roaring with laughter! Meri stood over him, confused, and finally lower her sword.

Derfel was walking along, enjoying his walk among the commoners, it was good for them to be able to see their beautiful and still gore encrusted Demon King. As usual Sicques was complaining about something or other, the man could not just shut up and for at least the second time Derfel considered getting rid of him.
"You are mad, its bad enough to be stuck inside a human, but a one that is stupid, delusional and somehow unkillable really pisses me off."
Derfel interrupted his faithful follower's praise and stood stock still, pretending to study an interesting array of horse crap, while he looked around carefully and secretly.
"Hush my good man, we are being followed."
Sicques snorted. "What by someone, you scared off everybody, including the police." A hopeful tone entered his voice. "What maybe its a dragon or some guards who actually have some and are going to kill you."
Derfel shook his head sadly and was glad that his man somehow stayed optimistic in the worst of times. "No." He intoned. "You see that brick wall over there?"
"Yes. What of it? Is there someone near it."
Derfel shook his head, his poor servant was rather simple. "If only it was that simple, I have seen that wall five times in the last five minutes, too may times to be a coincidence."
"What! You are mad, this whole city has brick walls through it."
"Yes, and that's what make it so dangerous that we have seemed to annoyed the brick wall gang."
"The brick wall gang?"
"Yes the same. We have to flee!" Derfel cautiously started walking again, but it seemed ever time he looked another wall was there. He began to run until the crafty walls had boxed him in.
"Fiends! I shall have your mortar for this." Derfel screamed and suddenly the walls began to creak and move.
"You Fool! You've just infused them with magik! Now they really are after us!"
"My poor superstitious friend, when I make an opening, run for it."
"Errrr! I am a demon locked inside your body, I can't leave you til you are dead. Hey wait these walls might just do it. Hahaha undone by your own stupidity and paranoia, Wooh!"
"Thank you mind kind nave, we shall fight back to back to death and to glory. For the kingdom!"
Derfel roared and pulled the flaming sword out of the sheath that hadn't been there before or either the sword. The sword was curved like a Sabre and he bellowed and pulled another sword out of nowhere, maybe his arse. He slashed and hacked at the towering walls of Grarhreifg, he knew now that these walls weren't the weak and numerous of the Brick wall gang but of the secret order of masons and brickies.
The flaming swords cut through the bricks like swords of metal and fire through bricks. He ducked the vicious swipes and slashes of the walls. They were throwing themselves at him, literally, with brick raining down and then returning to the main body. He had felled two, but the five others were going to be too much for him, but that was when the cavalry arrived. The mortal enemies to walls of Grarhreifg, the cobblestone creepers. These were the same size as the walls of brick and mortar, but more numerous.
"Oh you've got to be kidding me, he magiked them up as well!"
Derfel tried to ignore his companions war cries and focused instead on making it out alive.
Then as soon as it started it didn't finish, because walls are quite hard to kill, so the battle went on for a few more minutes with lots of really cool stuff and then ended.
Derfel thanked the cobblestone creepers and invited them for dinner later in the palace, where they would always be welcome. they bowed and slivered away in the shapes of snakes, a favorite form of theirs.
Derfel brushed the brick dust of his dried gore and continued on, knowing that he need not worry about walls anytime soon.

When Meri felt the sword slipping from her hands she reacted on instinct
Tomas' reaction was all but expected
How could he be so relaxed after just been thrown to the ground?
When Tomas was back up Meri charged in again, sword raised and ready.
Again the sword bounced of and she had to hold onto it very firmly so it wouldn't fly away again.
This isn't going to work, Meri thought.
She sheeted her sword and thought it through.
Tomas' amused expression made her a bit nervous.
Shells was still just doing what he always did,
now circling around Wolf, who seemed to be getting a bit annoyed.
Meri kept thinking
What is it I'm lacking?
I'm just randomly going at it
Maybe with a bit more speed or better technique...
She observed Tomas closely.
Her expression seems to make his mood even better.
He gave an encouraging nod and she charged in again.
This time she kept her sword sheeted until the last moment.
Then she jumped and attacked.
Once again Tomas had no problem fending her off,
however he seemed somewhat surprised.
Nice strike, he said.
They went on for another hour and then they decided it was time for dinner.
Meri was all sweaty so she decided to take a shower under the waterfall she'd seen.
Come on Shells let's go to the waterfall!
The crab was as enthusiastic as ever and happily ran behind her.
They left Tomas and Wolf behind, in charge of dinner.
When they arrived at the waterfall pond the sun was already starting to set.
Meri took of her dress and jumped in.
Shells had been a lot quicker and was already playing.
Now happily floating on his back, he didn't pay much attention to his surroundings.
Meri was used to bathing in the wild, because at home there'd never been anyone who could come and take a peak.
But she was just so happy with the water she forgot all about that.
When she decided to go back she heard someone running away.
Oh great, she thought. Her head turned red and she quickly put her dress back on.
One the way back Shells was happily running circles around Meri,
but her thoughts where elsewhere.
What was I thinking? I should've just...
Suddenly there was an explosion.
It came from around the place they'd left Tomas and Wolf.
Shells seemed in shock, unable to move.
Meri panicked but started running towards the place.
Shells made a complaining sound but followed her anyway.
When they finally made it back to the camp it was nearly destroyed.
Tomas was fighting some weird creatures again.
He really attracts creatures with bad intentions, Meri thought.
And this time there were lots of them.
One of them had noticed Meri and now came charging towards her.
Oh great, first a pervert and now a stupid demon?
My day just can't get any worse...
She instinctively grabbed for her sword, only to find that it wasn't there.
Alright maybe it just got worse...
Shells didn't like the intruders either, but this time he didn't hide.
Shells watch out! Meri shouted.
But the crab had already raised it's pincers and attacked.
The demon easily wiped Shells out and laughed in a strange voice.
Meri was stunned for a moment. Not only because Shells got hit,
but also because he actually wanted to fight...
Meri had to jump away to avoid being cut in half.
Tomas was fighting 2 at a time now.
They were and endless tide.
Meri kept getting closer to where her sword was and finally got a hold of it.
She felt powerless and angry because of what happened to Shells.
Wolf must've noticed something was wrong with Meri because he tried to hold her back.
Wolf, don't! Go to Shells, go help Shells!
Wolf's eyes turned sad but he obeyed her.
Meri was now overcome by anger.
She sliced through the demon and it vanished.
Suddenly he reappeared and grabbed her from behind.
Another one came at her, sword raised and ready.
Just when the demon was going to pierce her Tomas hit him.
The demon was finished. The other one made an angry noise and disappeared.
Meri fell to her knees as the tension broke and started crying.
Tomas lay his hand on her shoulder but she shook it off.
Don't touch me, she screamed in an hysteric voice.
I should've known better than to trust a man!
Tomas had this stunned expression on his face.
What happened Meri? And where is Shells, or Wolf?
I haven't seen either of them.
What about you, are you alright?
Meri got more angry with every word that came out of his mouth.
Shells is probably dead and no I'm not alright you stupid pervert! She blew the words in his face.
More tears started running down her cheeks.
Tomas didn't know what to say. What on earth was she saying?
You must be pretty insane 'cause nothing you just said makes any sense!
He turned around for a moment and then put his arms around Meri.
No let me go! I don't want to! She shouted.
Don't want to what? He asked. What's wrong with you?
You really are an idiot for thinking I'd fall for that!
Do you usually get with girls just to get off when they're taking a shower?
And why do there always have to be these monsters?!
Demons...
Yeah monsters, demons whatever!
I have to go find Shells.
Her legs were so shaky she fell to the ground.
Tomas reached out for her once again, but she wouldn't have it.
Don't touch me! You stay away from me!
Shells! Where are you! Please come back, Shells!
Wolf, where are you? You should've been back by now...
Please tell me it's all a lie... Tell me you're just pulling a prank...
Meri fell to the ground once again.
Tomas picked her up and said in a quiet voice.
I have no idea what happened to you,
but I'll help you find Shells.
Meri wanted to release herself from his arms
But he held on to her tightly.
No let me go! Let me go!
He tried to hush her.
Meri had no more voice left to shout.
But she kept crying.
Please Meri, don't cry.
Tell me what happened, Tomas said.
- You're telling me you don't know?
- How could I know, the moment you disappeared the demons attacked...
- You swear you're telling the truth?
- I swear. I would never lie to you.
Meri looked into his eyes and stopped crying.
She started telling him what happened at the waterfall,
and how Shells had defended her against that demon and got wiped out.
I sent Wolf to find him, but he hasn't come back yet.
Tears filled her eyes once again.
Shells never attacks anyone! Never! Except...
He did it once before... But that was years ago...
- Could you tell me? Tomas asked.
What he did to me...
Meri took off her dress and Tomas reacted a bit alarmed.
Meri, wait, don't...
But his voice abruptly faded as he saw the scars on her back.
I was 12 when I first met him at the Western part of the forest.
I rarely came there so I got lost.
He seemed like a nice guy and we became friends.
I never had a friend before so I was really happy.
We played together every day.
I can't imagine a happier moment in my life.
But things started changing.
He said he loved me, and if I loved him too I had to do everything he wanted.
I guess I was just too young and naive to understand.
The first time he kissed me I was so happy.
Finally I didn't have to be alone anymore.
Shells was happy too with some extra company.
One day we were playing on the beach together when he forced me down.
At first I thought he was just playing so I laughed.
I was shocked when he slapped me in the face and tried to rip my dress off.
I tried to crawl away but he took off his belt and hit me on my back with it.
He kept screaming that all woman are the same...
Fist they pull you close and then they push you away.
I can't remember how long it took...
I didn't care anymore really, even after he left I just lay there...
It was all a lie. His words, his kindness...
When he came back a few days later he said he was sorry.
But I didn't believe him.
I wanted to hit him in the face and scream
but Shells had already charged into him and cut his leg.
I was afraid he was going to die so I tried to stop the bleeding.
But he tried to suffocate me...
Shells cut off his left arm and we ran away...
I've never been to that place since.
Even if it's the same forest, it's not part of my home...
I don't even know why I'm telling you all of this...
Let's go find Shells.
Meri ran off to look for Shells and left Tomas behind.
Seemed he needed some time processing everything he just heard.

Derfel was walking along the street when he suddenly fell over, he looked around in a rage, who would dare attack the God King. There was nothing around except a mat of nails, which mystics sat on and didn't die or get hurt, til you jumped on them, then it was funny.
He glared at the offending mat and spat at it.
"Apologize now, then kill yourself and I won't kill you!"
The mat looked sullenly back at him, ignoring its King.
"Die now! Or I will kill you!"
The mat ignored him and whistled at a horse's tail.
"Assassination attempt! I shall deal with you now!"
Derfel slammed his fist into the mat and he heard it scream, his fist absorbing the nails, so he could hit the weak mat through them. He started to slam his fists faster and faster into it, hearing it scream and moan, finally it was dead and looked around. He noticed a man on the corner grinding meat for pies and he stormed over, the man was trembling, but still grinding.
"You! Yes, you! Spread the word of what happens to those who dare oppose the might of the Demon King."
The man nodded and Derfel seethed.
"What you ignore me too? I see, you are a part of it to!"
The man screamed but Derfel ignored him and plunged his hands into the mincer, trying to get to the weak blades at its centre.
"Yes, I can feel you fear and pain, don't worry they shall soon be over."
"What the hell are you doing?"
Derfel turned to his trusty companion Sicques.
"Well my friend I am throttling this mincer for his crimes against the crown."
"Right. And what do you hands look like?"
Derfel would have pulled his unharmed hands out to show Sicques, but he had none, so he pulled out his rapidly bleeding and torn stumps.
"That certainly showed him. reminds me of a time when I met a god on a mountain. Yes pretty much the exact thing happened."
"Yes I know. I was there too remember, when that stupid crab attacked you and ate your arms. Now will you please just bleed out and please don't grow your hands back again, as that really disappoints me."
"Oh you haven't heard the story? Well I met the crab god, who was mighty, brave and had the power to walk sideways, a most holy gift."
"Oh please shut up! I just wish you perved on that girl for longer, she was hot! Yeah and I mean that. I wish I could have taken control of you, but i was too tired from my last attempt."
"Oh yes! I remember that, you tried to throw me off a mountain, ah those were good times, too bad you didn't."
"I did you fool! and you didn't stop bouncing and smashing off rocks for at least two hours, and then you get up, brush yourself off and see that stupid crab."
"Good times... So there I was, this powerful and awe inspiring beast god was infront of me, then a cool wolf showed up and bit my leg off, the little scamp. So I ruffled his chest and scratched his ears, while he mauled at my bleeding stump. I was always good with animals, gave them just what they wanted. So I then..."
Tomas and Meri practiced for about another hour, and Meri made marked improvement finally saying let’s stop.
Meri mumbled something about being sweaty and went off towards the stream and waterfall -- Tomas put up his weapons of war settled down to make supper. He pulled out the bacon and sliced off slab bacon, and he pulled out the beans.
Before the bacon could fry, Tomas noticed the smell of sulfur in the air. He slowly began to pull his sword out again. To his surprise demons were appearing everywhere, armed with nothing but their claws and their foul stench. Tomas noticed that behind the first wave of demons with a large twisted demon. As his blade came free it blazed with an ethereal light, making all the demons cry out in pain. Tomas began to swing his massive sword, cutting through demon flesh like a heated knife through butter. Over and over again sending the demons back to the realm that they came from trying to get to the large twisted demon. Who was this large twisted demon? What was this attack now and why so many demons?
Suddenly he saw Meri come from around the corner and a demon attacker immediately. From what he could tell she seemed to be holding her own. Then two more demons turned toward her! Tomas hurriedly dispatched the last demon in front of him and rather than going over to the large demon, he turned toward Meri. The creatures didn’t stand a chance, not even knowing Tomas was behind them he swung his sword and a large poof of sulfuric vapor they disappeared. Tomas looked over for the large demon, but he too was gone.
Finally turning to Meri he found her holding her sword, wild eyed , but unhurt. Tomas put his sword on the ground, and Meri collapsed. When Tomas touched her, she started ranting about men being evil and how she shouldn’t have trusted him.
Tomas did the only thing he knew how to do - he loved her! he held her even though she didn’t want to be held.
"It’s alright Meri - I’m not going to hurt you", Tomas almost chanted
Tomas was stunned ... for the first time in his life he was speachless. What a horrible way for one person to treat another!!

The wind was bitter cool in the mid reaches of the mountains. A cold series of knives weaving a slicing through the air. Huddled up in a leafy cradle dug into the ground a lone figure surveys all before him. He sniffed at the sharp air.
"Breakfast time," he mumbled to himself with a smirk. Far below him a furry, grunting shape had caught his eye. He kept his eyes on the beast for a while, then without making a sound he eased his way out of his little dugout. Quickly but carefully he raced down the mountainside. With the wind against him he had the advantage.
Eventually he reached a plateau and his prey. Gently he slid a small tanto out of its sheath from it's tight position in his dougi obi. With the blade pressed tight against his forearm, blade down he slowly approached the beast, now sleeping. Closer he crept, every footstep carefully placed. Behind the beats hi brought the tanto to bear and braced himself to strike into the animals neck. Straight through the arteries he thought, bleed out and no pain. A good death for an honourable bear.
Then the wind changed. A massive, feral eye shot open wide and stared at him for a second. Then nature kicked in with both feet and the massive bear shot up, swiping at the hunter, narrowly missing his head. The hunter quickly moved back and unsheathed his second blade, a wide wakizashi. It's blade gleamed against the sunlight, though the hamon (temper line) was dull, almost black in colour.
The massive bear stood onto its hind legs. An open display of aggression. It roared and spat and pummelled at the floor. Waving its arms it stared squarely at the cool warrior in his gi.
A black silhouette against the entire scene the warrior stood with his wakizashi in his right hand and tanto in his left. One chance he thought to himself. He crouched ever so slightly. More spring in the legs. He brought his weapons up ready, the tanto now turned so the blade was up was resting in his hand which in turn almost rested on his belt. It needs to be a clean thrust. His wakizashi was also resting near it, blade pointing behind him, his arm pulled tight across his body. A fine cut, no room for error.
The bear had finished its display. It knew this thing in fronmt of him was not going to run away and was a threat. A warrior knows another warrior. These great fighting entities locked eyes for one final moment.
Then the bear charged.
It gathered speed quickly it's huge mass all muscle from losing its fat from hibernation. Eyes fixed for the kill it grew ever closer to the figure. It's massive legs struck the ground as the bear pounced from its great stride.
Then the warrior struck.
It was over in an instant. The warrior launched himself from standing, a finely honed rocket. He thrust his tanto out straight and true. True enough it found its mark, just under the bears jawline in the side of its neck. Then as he started to decelerate he swung the wakizashi round in a precise arc, neatly separating the bear's head from it's neck. The force of the cut and his jump allowed him to sail neatly over the bear's stiffened form. He landed neatly and quickly turned to survey his adversary.
"Honourable warrior, it was a good match, thank you for your strength."
The man then proceeded to use his finely honed tanto to take slices of meat from the bear. Once he was done he pushed the gigantic carcass over the edge of the plateau, knowing it would go to feed many more denizens of this harsh landscape.
Much later on beside a roaring fire the warrior sat eating his prize. He was today feasting on another days survival. He ate in silence, his blue eyes reflecting the dancing embers of the fire. He felt uneasy. His strength needed new tests and he was growing tired of the challenges of the mountains.
Maybe I should go to civilisation as he told me to......?
He knew this day was coming. Now bored with honing his skills, it was time to affect the world by placing himself in it. Hi pulled tight the rope gi around his waist and made sure his weapons were securely fastened. Then he picked a direction and started to walk. Shadow, this is time. Destiny is palpable in the air.
And he walked. For days he navigated obstacles and fought off the beasts of the land. The mountainous region gave way to calmer, yet dense bamboo forest. Still he drove himself forward, knowing that soon he would reach a village, or if not, at least the sea.
On the verge of giving up and changing direction, suddenly Shadow stumbled into a perfectly round clearing within the bamboo. The hairs on the back of his neck instantly stood on end. He began to sweat. He hadn't felt this much anxiety in years. It was almost exhilarating, the rush of adrenaline preparing him for fight or flight. Yet he could not even see anything to upset him.
Suddenly something caught his eye. Barely noticeable at first, but on the ground was in fact a pile of green rags. He quickly ran over to it only to find that the pile of green rags was actually a woman draped in a green kimono. Without thinking he knelt beside the woman and tried to rouse her.
"Ma'am are you alright?" he asked concerned.
"Mmmmmnmnmmm.... hmmm?" a lazy eye opened to inspect him. Deep crimson in colour. Then another, inspecting every facet of his face and his clothing.
"Who are you?" an innocent voice asked, Shadow had hardly noticed the womans striking beauty. Her porcelain skin was smooth, almost waxy to look at.
"I am known as Shadow, have you been hurt? I found you unconscious on the." he was cut short.
"You woke me," the woman stated, "I was asleep and you interrupted that sleep."
"Well then I." she interrupted again.
"It is not wise for one such as you to stumble upon one such as me, it is I who must apologise for what is about to become of you......"
"What?" Shadow was completely stunned her tone was ethereal, yet sharp and for some reason looking at her was making him feel hugely uncomfortable.
"I'm sorry then I'll be going," Shadow got up, he was not about stay near this area, he had a horrid feeling in his gut. As he turned to walk away the woman grabbed his wrist, she had the grip of a titan. Uh oh.
"Perhaps you should stay here with me........ permanently......" Shadow wished he hadn't turned back to look at her. Suddenly the perfect skin had become scales, the ethereal tone now a hiss. The hand now scaly also had long sharp claws protruding from it.
"AAAARGH!" Shadow screamed in alarm, he quickly grabbed his other hand over the creatures grip, quickly maneuvering in for nikyo wristbreak. The demons wrist shattered and splintered just like any humans, but the sound it made was not from any man or woman. He deftly punched her in the side of the head and made space, sharply swinging his staff free.
The demon woman screeched at him and flung herself forward swinging her remaining good arm wildly. Shadow slammed his staff down having the advantage of distance and neatly cracked the tip into the monsters skull. A thick green ooze trickled like treacle down the beasts face. She staggered back wildly.
Shadow slung his staff back over his shoulder and withdrew his wakizashi. It's gleaming blade began to resonate violently in the presence of the demon. She suddenly became transfixed with it in sheer horror.
"The Onikiller? that can't be the real blade, it has been lost for decades!" She was visibly now mortified slowly trying to back away from the advancing Shadow.
"This thing? I don't know what it's called but I'm pretty sure it's going to end your miserable life demon! You should have known better than to tangle with someone as powerful as me!" Shadow's gait became predatory as he neared the demon. He readied his blade as he approached.
The demon cowered on its knees. It put its one good hand to the floor, holding the other tight to its stomach visibly paining. It grovelled pathetically all the time trying to shuffle backwards away from 'Onikiller'.
"Please traveller, it is obvious you have much strength, but maybe a warrior of your calibur would show some mercy in return for a favour?"
Shadow stopped, inches from the monster, he looked down arrogantly and raised his blade, "what can you hope to bribe my mercy with, fool?"
"Please lower your weapon and.."
"Tell me!"
She flinched, "Okay okay!". She attempted to sit in a seated kneel, still clutching her damaged arm to her chest, her other firmly on her leg.
"Listen close warrior and gain some wisdom....."
Shadow relaxed a second ready to hear what she had to say. But it was all she needed, she flung her damaged arm at him forcing him to react. He cut her head cleanly off, the force of the cut sending it sailing through the air. It landed neatly on the ground beside her.
Shadow staggered back and inspected himself. He's been scratched across his chest, four neat black lines running down the middle of his chest, stopping short of his stomach. His chest felt like it was on fire. Shadow's head began to swim. His vision becoming blurry. In the distant background he could here the demon laughing.
"You will become one of us now! I curse you Master of the Onikiller! That sword will be your demise!!!!!" Then the head, along with the body burst into flames.
The pain was becoming unbearable. Shadow screamed out in pain, trying to recite mantras to counter the curse. He looked down at his chest he could seen the poison quickly spreading across his chest. He needed to hurry. Without thinking he quickly bolted out of the clearing, crashing through the woods. His thick gi suddenly began to feel incredibly heavy and his vision seemed misty. He had lost sense of focus and direction. Onwards he ran crashing through woodland until suddenly bright white light hit his vision.
He was out of the forest. Then then next wave of pain came. He clenched his teeth together cursing his own arrogance. The his vision went black
