Black Lagoon is a fave, as is Berserk...

Najica-Blitz Tactics is pretty good, and Guyver-BioBooster Armor.... yeah I like classic stuff,lol!

What kind of action? Its to vague of a word, but ok

Baccano! - biggest amounts of blood and gore, in my must watch list
Shigurui: Death Frenzy - big amount of blood and gore, a best on my mind approach to portraying samurais and their life (well its not that I know how they lived exactly), say no to pretty boys talking "wise" and lonely. In my must watch list too.
Black Lagoon - if you like Robert Rodriguez's and Quentin Tarantino's works like I do, you will probably like this (it's not just as good, but the approach is similar)

If your looking for some serious anime's I recommend Burst Angel, Claymore, legend of basara, Gilgamesh, Read or Die, D Gray Man, Baccano!, Darker than black, higurashi no naku koro ni,Madlax and Gankutsuou.:bow:
