well, i find that inking works the best
heres some examples of my work.

i find that when you ink it, the lines are clearer, and the damn paper doesnt smudge, messing it up. the way to ink it is very easy. just draw over the lines with a black pen. it takes forever to do without messing up, but when you are done, the graphite doesnt smudge, and your pictures last a lot lot longer.
however, i dont suggest inking in shading yet, as that takes a LOT of practice to do correctly, as you need to master the distance between lines, instead of how hard you press with the pencil.
when shading with ink, the darker you want something to look, the closer together the lines must be, but if you want the shading to be lighter, the lines must be farther apart. plus, when shading, you need to have the grain of the shading consitant... so much effort... anyway, just trace the outer lines with ink, and you will be set!
(if you are afraid of messing up with the ink, and wanna go with pencil... well, it really depends... darker pencils are better for outlines, lighter is better for shading... thats up for ur discretion.)
