Need help

So yeah, I draw a lot, but I don't know how to do a clean scan. Every time I try, the paper is all dark and dirty and if I try to clean it with photoshop, I get ridiculous results.
What would be a good way to do clean lines? What kind of pen/pencil should I use?
Have some robot in return (scanner was broken and I had to use my camera, but that's how it scans)

most of the time that has to do with some kind of contrast / brightness setting. look foor it in the scan settings.

well in MS-Paint you can use the eraser with white :P
I've done it on my Drawings and it works quite well :victory:
Sorry I don't have the old version and my original paper is missing so can't re-scan it ...
but it can be done

How about fine tips one?
I don't remember what they are called but they have their tip
the thing that starts from the .. well the writing area of the pen is made of ...
umm... something like felt tip markers but micro in size :P
sorry i don't remember what they are called officially so at your store just tell them that you are looking for a pen with micro felt tip XD

hmm, i usually open GIMP and fool with the levels, and sometimes channels. i recommend levels if u've got good inked lineart, but if it's a pencil drawing, i usually fiddle around with layer settings and levels. u can also find different tutorials on this on dA (deviantart.com) if that helps.

EDIT: i fooled around a little and this is what i got. it can get a lot better, but u get the point.

GIMP = Gsomething image manipulation program or something like that. basically it's like photoshop, but it crashes more, and it doesn't have as many features, but it's free, and it should work fine for those who just want basic photoediting abilities, and includes layers! very rare to find decent freeware with layers, too.

Hmmm...
I don't know if you tried to scan with settings
Black & White instead of color or grayscale :P
but anyways as RJD said .. try out the contrast brightness options :)
Other than that;
you could always try cleaning it up in MS-Paint XD
it works quite nicely

before trying to scan it, go over all the lines in black pen. this is called inking. after doing this, use an eraser over the entire thing and then try scaning it. do this on a quick sketch before trying it on an important piece though.

Yeah, I have the latest photoshop, so I don't really need GIMP (it's a really nice program, though) and I tried the level adjustments and I can get good results, but the lines look terrible. I might have to get a tablet or something if I want to correct them.

If I try to adjust the contrast, the lines look all "grainy" (is that a word?)
I can make the background white, but I have to work on the lines and all and I don't know how to do that

Yeah, I know what inking is, but I don't know what kind of pen to use. Cheap ones won't do because it spreads around on the paper when I erase. And the people at my local art store have no idea of what I should use.:189bbdde:
