Being stuck in space and let radiation and lack of air kill the floating body, drifting away to no where. (unless aliens discovered the body and clone it :P )

From a poetic standpoint, getting stabbed in the back by someone you trust has to be pretty painful too.

I go for inventive ways to kill someone.

Keel Hauling - where you tie a rope to the feet of a victim and throw him off the bow of the ship, as he/she is dragged under the ship, they get cut up by the sharp barnicles attached to the keel of the ship. This method takes several attempts to finish off someone.
Crucificition - nothing says torture like being hung on a rough wooden cross post and slowly allowed to suffocate, dehydrate, or bleed to death. If a victim took too long to die, they'd break the legs so they could not stand and suffocate when their arms could not hold them up anymore.
Death by 1000 cuts, you'd basically slowly cut strips of flesh from your victim with a sharp blade. Most victims would never make it to 1000 cuts, because of the victim bleeding to death. I've come up with a solution to that problem though, what you do is get a portable blowtorch and cauterize the wounds so they don't bleed. Assuming the victim doesn't die from stress, you could get up to 700 cuts in (sorry ended sentence in preposition).

Problem is they didn't break your legs right away. Some guys would be there for days, then when the Romans got bored they'd end it.

Plus with crucificition there's severe cramping. Imagine your whole body is cramping and you can't do anything about it.

As for the rest, interesting. They must've kept the legs unbroken for guys they truly hated.

And to offer more painful ways to die. Poisioning is pretty nasty, especially with a metallic poison. Seems you have all your pain synapses firing while simultaneously suffering organ failure.

I didn't think the Vikings traveled that far south. I knew of them hitting North America. Eric the Red and his crew.

As for the Aztecs or other Central/South American ancient societies, yeah they were pretty brutal also. Plus they cut you up with stone knives. Not the quickest way to get to the heart and organs.

Problem is stone knives dull quickly, and have jagged edges, so no smooth or sustained cuts.
